It’s always joy to find a new artist that you immediately like. Nina Smith is a singer songwriter from Nottingham and ‘Run Out’ is her current single.
Nina has previously opened for artists such as Belinda Carlise, Finley Quaye and Alicia Dixon and has worked on some BBC sessions recorded at the legendary Maida Vale studios.
Smith has been working with producer Yoad Nevo (Sia, Goldfrapp) and together they’ve come up with some magic on ‘Run Out’.
Smith’s vocals are quite soulful and her lyrics contemporary but production is reminiscent of Portishead or Massive Attack, giving a timeless quality to the track. It’s the type of track that may be a slow burner but listen to it a couple of times and the choral refrain will be running round your head. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find a rumbling bass sound to die for.
This is the first I’ve heard from Nina Smith and I’m really looking forward to hearing more. Her debut album ‘White Feather’ is due out in October this year.
