Example: Won’t Go Quietly

example wont go quietly

Last November on the Culture Cafe I named Example as one of my tips for 2010. Glad I said that!

His new album is fresh, clever and relevant. It starts off with the track ‘From Space’, a clever move not starting with the singles. It immediately grabs your attention and rattles your ears with his well thought lyrics and interesting arrangement. Half way through the track breaks into an uptempo danceable beat. Perfect introduction for the rest of the album.

Hit singles, ‘Won’t Go Quietly’ and the holiday romanced ‘Watch the sun come up’ sit back to back on the disc, making this a perfect summer soundtrack. Could Example be taking a chance by putting the hits at the start of the album? No!

‘Time Machine’ is a Calvin Harris produced track and could easily be heard on any radio station. ‘Something in the Water’ is a UK garage vibed track, again, Example’s clever lyrics are so smooth and effortless.

‘Last Ones Standing’ was confirmed on Twitter by Example to be a single as some stage. Produced by Peter Bjorn and John’s, Björn Yttling its another melodic radio friendly track with an uptempo beat that will set any dance floor alight.

Sometimes having a number of different producers on the same album can lead to a slightly disjointed record. Not this time, if I can count properly there are 11 different producers on this one..

Current Top Ten hit ‘Kickstarts’, brings us back to the familiar. This album finishes with another couple of garage-esque tracks and the thoughtful ‘Won’t Believe The Fools’. The ITunes version comes with the hilariously funny ‘Girls Cant Dance’, well worth a listen.

Overall the album is seamless dispite the different producers, its the perfect Summer Heatwave soundtrack and really this should put Example on top of UK Hip Hop.

P.S. Example is on Twitter so I asked him the other day if there was going to be a club date for Dublin on the tour in the Autumn.. here’s what he said.. Remember where you heard it first!
