Work-Bloc_PosterI don’t usually just post about gigs but this isn’t just about music. There’s lots going on alongside music! This is more of a four day event and what’s more, it’s all free!

Here’s the all the deets!

Tonight sees Totally Wired comedy duo take to the stage to make you LOL your face off! Plus, we’ve got a brand new exhibition curated by Shane O’Donaghue. It’s called MISNOMER and is described as a collection of work by Irish artists and designers. Clap yer peepers on it on the First Floor.

Friday, August 10th will bring you joy via the medium of music. The amazing Katie Kim, Last Days of 1984 and Monto will be playing for your listening pleasure. The spin doctor Ed Smith MD will be prescribing some choons upstairs from 10pm.

Saturday, August 11th kicks off with what promises to be a riotous market on The Terrace. From 3-6pm we’ll be hosting some of our pals from Oxfam Books (Parliament St), Public Beware (Essex St), Feral Foods (feral.ie) The Picture Rooms (12 Wellington Quay) Orla Goodwin, Silver Dragon Jewellery, French Hens Jewellery, home-made cakes by the lovely Mary O’Reilly, music buff Ciaran Savage will entice you to buy some of his rare and collectible music and the gorgeous Aideen Rafferty will be selling clothes, curios and fancy things..Plus there will be a host of lovely things for you to look at and buy and bring home and love forever!

If you can’t find anything to tickle your fancy at The Terrace Market then fear not! You can also head over to The Garage Bar (Essex St East), conveniently located RIGHT behind The Workman’s Club. From 12 noon until 7 bells there will be a whole mega-load of treats for you to feast your peepers on. 9 Crow St (lush vintage shop normally located on…ahem…9 Crow St) and Golly Gosh Boutique (splendid vintage purveyors from 2 Crown Alley) will be bringing their wares for you to lust over and maybe even make them yours. PLUS there will be 2 for 1 cocktails and resident DJs on the wheels of steel to keep you entertained. If only everyday shopping was THIS MUCH CRAIC.

At 3pm that day there will be a Digital SLR Workshop hosted by our neighbours in The Picture Rooms (next to The Bison Bar)(Sounds Great – Ed)

At 4pm you can brush up on your drawing skills with the one and only Don Conroy in the Vintage Room. (What? Did you just say Don Conroy will teach me how to draw? Awesome!)

The splendid lads from The Richter Collective will be hosting a l’il pop up record shop on the ground floor of Number 9. In addition to Richter Collective releases there will also be records available from hip’n’groovy labels Eleven Eleven, Popical Island, Quarter Inch Collective and more to be announced. You’ll need some refreshments after that, which is why we’ve organized a whiskey tasting in The Bison Bar from 5pm. Your tastebuds won’t know what’s hit ‘em. All the while, there will be lovely acoustic sets upstairs from the likes of VerseChorusVerse, You Kiss By The Book, The Man Who and Elaine Mai.

Then downstairs in The Venue from 8pm, we’ve got some DELIGHTS in store for you. Alarmist, Kid Karate and Overhead The Albatross are going to stick it to ya – followed by some serious DJ skillz from May Kay of the deadly Fight Like Apes. There’s also gonna be some serious musical stylings from The Workman’s Club Indie Residents from 10 bells on the First Floor.

For those of you that like to mix having the craic with learning stuff, the wunderkind Gavin Timlin from Ableton Live Music Production/ createsound.ie will be showing y’all what you can do with their software – from music production to DJing to performances..All this from 3pm til 7 in the Number 9 Bar. There’ll be laptops and headphones available so you can have a go and wow your mates with your wizardry.

He may have rested on the 7th day, but we sure as hell ain’t. Sunday, August 12th we’ve got the Oxfam Vintage Shop happening (in The Vintage Room, natch!) from 3pm. BUT WHAT ABOUT MY HAIR? Ok, we’ll sort your bonce out for you while we’re at it…We’ve got the mega-hot Sean Bryan from Cut And Sew coming in to show you what’s what in the hair department. He’ll be a-sorting barnets and a-shapin’ quiffs for FREE between 3-6pm. BUT I DO WANT TO REST. AND WATCH A MOVIE. Well, we can assist you. There’ll be a Vintage Film Screening of the amazing Cinema Paradiso at 8 bells followed by a Dress Dance at the fashionably late time of 11pm in The Venue with the sweet-deck-spinnery of Miss Paula Cullen.

Now, like an anxious politician you want to know ‘how much will all these hi-jinx and japes cost me?’ And we solemnly tell you NOTHING. NOWT. ZERO. Every event is free to enter. WOW! The only time you will have to cross our palms with silver is to pay for whiskey at our Whiskey Tasting Extravaganza, because contrary to popular belief, whiskey doesn’t grow on trees.
