The London Ear Show 304 with Gemma Dunleavy and FiCat

Hello! A little delayed in getting this online, my apologies.

It was really great to get the opportunity to speak to two fantastic women on this week’s show. Both are really interesting artists, doing great things in their areas of music.

Interview with Gemma Dunleavy

Gemma Dunleavy is an immensely talented artist. A musician and film maker, she’s been honing her hip hop style for the past few years. That has brought her to releasing her current EP. ‘Up De Flats’, which focuses on the community of Sheriff Street in Dublin. What you end up with a collection of real stories about people and situations set in a beautiful soundscape.

For me, this is another chapter of music about Dublin life, file next to A Lazarus Soul and Mango X Mathman.

You can find out more about Gemma on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook. Buy Up De Flats on Bandcamp.

Interview with FiCat

I really enjoyed catching up with FiCat. Here’s the thing, FiCat was actually in my year in DCU when I returned to study as a mature student. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that following a stint living in Berlin, she had returned to Ireland and was now releasing music under the moniker, FiCat.

All My Love is FiCat’s first single and it’s a seriously danceable track. I really enjoyed our chat about how life is back in Dublin, how FiCat found a new love of trad music in Berlin and much more besides.

FiCat has a gig (remember those?) scheduled for March 27th 2021, Upstairs at Whelans. You can buy tickets for the gig from Ticketmaster.

You can find out more about FiCat on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Check out her music on Spotify.
