Gypsies On The Autobahn: Demo Review

GOTA Having twice received information about a Gypsies On The Autobahn gig on March 11th in Academy 2 (see I got the plug in!), I decided to check the guys out. Question? How long can a band be together and still call themselves newcomers? “Together almost 5 years now Gypsies On The Autobahn are have fast become one of the most talked about young newcomers to the Irish music scene.” Enough about that, what are they like?

The demo starts with ‘Hidden’, the most polished of all the tracks and sounds like The Script having an indie day. Memorable hooks and lyrics, tight musicianship and just ever so right harmonies come together with the end result being a pretty decent track with a nice ending.

‘Devil And Me’ is an upbeat indie pop track. The track boasts some nice arrangements and a little bit of brass never did anyone any harm. Muted drums signal the start of ‘Suited Suitors’ and this track seems to show that although this may have rawer production values than its predecessors, GOTA know how they want to sound. By the time ‘Sirens’ comes round though a little variation in the overall sound would be good along with a little softening of the lead vocal, nothing a decent producer can’t sort out.

The songs seem to be there, the musicianship is there. I want to hear what they’re like after a decent producer gets their hands on them. I’ll be keeping an eye out.

Oh! The EP is free to anyone who comments or likes the band on Facebook, all you have to do is ask.
