Movie Quest 2010

That’s what I’ve decided to call my catchup on the movie world. Since the New Year I’ve watched a decent amount of movies, here a few more:

Up In The Air:

Ah yes, Mr Clooney stars as Ryan Bingham, a lonesome businessman in search of 10 million air miles. It’s a surprisingly good story and as I previously mentioned, Twilight’s Anna Kendrick plays Clooney’s young apprentice, Natalie. They both go through their own personal rollercoasters throughout the story.

Jason Reitman has done a great job and unsurprisingly Up In The Air has had 6 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture It deserves them. it has already won a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay.

Zack and Miri Make A Porno:

Written and Directed by Kevin Smith this movie had me laughing my ass off. It’s hilarious, sometimes quite heartfelt but a great great movie. It follows Zack (Seth Rogan) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) as two friends who know each other since high school, and gradually the bills in their shared apartment have become to much for them. The ingenious idea to make a porno, bring the pair and their group of new friends closer together. Jason Mewes (Jay from Smith’s earlier film’s) makes an appearance as Lester and gets his kit off for the girls.

Really like it. Kevin Smith is a genuis!

1408:

John Cusack plays Michael Elsin, A paranormal author who gets a postcard in the mail, that leads him to want to stay in Room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel. Despite the pleas of the Hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson), he still wants to stay in the room where 56 deaths have occurred and no one stays longer than an hour.

Directed by Mikael Hafstrom, the film is based on a short story by Stephen King. It maybe a King story but the direction leads me to think that, especially towards the end of the film, that the director was going for a Hitchcock vibe. It’s not a bad thriller but the ending lacks a little.
