See Wilson Dixon Live – Competition

Wilson Dixon

This looks like it could be a lot of fun!!

“It’s almost impossible to fault Dixon’s best lines whether spoken or sung… [they] nod to a verbal ability up there with the greatest jokesmiths.” Chortle, UK Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 2009.

Having previously wowed audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the New Zealand Comedy Gala and his home town Cripple Creek, Colorado. Wilson Dixon makes his way to Doyles, D’olier St, Dublin 2 on Thursday July 15th. This will be his first appearance in Dublin since his acclaimed appearance at the Carlsberg Comedy Carnival last July.

Picture this: It’s 2006 amd Wilson Dixon arrives at the Edinburgh Fringe, thinking it was a music festival. His show, ‘The Wilson Dixon Hour’ gained critical comedy acclaim and ‘Spanks Best Musical Comedy Act‘, something that the Country and Western has been trying to come to terms with since.

Wilson Dixon has continued to show audiences his ‘cowboy philosophy’ and has since toured with Rhys Derby (Flight of the Conchords) and Stewart Lee. Dixon is a BBC radio regular, with appearances on Radio 4 and BBC Wales. BBC Radio 2 has also filmed the legend for a four part series which looks at his life in Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Here’s the real bit..

Wilson Dixon is a creation of New Zealand comic Jesse Griffin who was a founder member of acclaimed comedy trio The Four Noels. Along with his awards won for his character Wilson Dixon, as a member of the 4 Noels, he has won best comedy awards at Melbourne and Wellington Fringe festivals and has been nominated twice for the prestigious Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Jesse Griffin is also an acclaimed Director; two of his directorials Open Door and Secret Door (performed by Asher Treleaven) received a nominated for the ‘Barry’ award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for ‘best show’ in 2009 and 2010. The show ‘Secret Door’ picked up The Age Critics Award this year.

“…Hysterically deadpan…one not to miss” Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, Aug, 2008.
