The London Ear 2018

The London Ear on RTÉ 2XM // Show 199

Woah! What a busy show this week! I was delighted to be joined by not one, but two awesome guests, Clare Joy Longford and James Hendicott.

Interview with Clare Joy Langford, actor and producer of For King and Country

For King and Country

Clare Joy Longford is an actor and producer and is currently producing a play with the Dilated Theatre Company entitled ‘For King and Country.

It’s a court room drama which follows a Private Hemps’s desertion of World War I after three years on the frontline. Those found guilty of desertion were handed a death sentence. This follows the soldier’s PTSD, or what was then called ‘shell shock’ and the tribulations his defending officer had trying to ensure Private Hemp was acquitted.

The play was originally perfomed as ‘Hamp’ at the Edinburgh Festival in 1964. The cast included Leonard Rossiter, John Hurt and Richard Briers. It was then adapted into the BAFTA-nominated film King and Country.

For King and Country runs at the Southwark Playhouse from June 28 – July 21st. You can get tickets here.
