Tune of the Week // Corella – Say Something

There must be something in the water up north. From what I’ve been led to believe, ‘Up North’ is anywhere north of St Albans to Londoners. There has been a plethora of really good new bands coming out of Manchester and going on ‘Say Something’, Corella have put themselves at the top of the pile.

‘Say Something’ is the follow up to ‘Barcelona Girl’ from earlier this summer. I defy you not to dance. However, it will be inevitable. Funky guitar and drums and memorable refrains are the vital ingredients in this recipe. I’d put a tenner on that these guys have listened to Little Comets on more than one occasion.

Great song structure, musicality and vocal delivery all come together perfectly at exactly the right time for Corella. This is a huge delightful slice of indie pop. Definitely a band to watch out for in 2018.

The lads are playing the O2 Ritz Manchester on 14/12/17 and will be announcing a tour for Spring 2018 shortly.

The Shoos: Say Something Review

TheShoos‘Say Something’ is the new single from The Shoos and is released on their own label ‘The Shoos Records’. It’s a brave move for the band as they were with Universal in Ireland for a spell and also headed to the U.S. last year as big money and investment was about to come their way.

‘Say Something’ lyrically gives a glimpse into what happened at the time describing it as ‘all we heard was yes.’ The track builds nicely to the chorus and lead singer, Tex’s raspy vocals, make it seem that this is a new step forward for the band, such is the belief and the passion. The track was recorded live and was mixed by Joe Zook who has also worked with Modest Mouse, One Republic and Katy Perry.

‘Say Something’ is a grower but once you hear it a couple of times, you’ll be singing along. This is a really good platform for The Shoos to re-establish themselves, their way. Fair play, their hearts are on their sleeves.
