TheLondonEar - Trick Mist - photography by Ste Murray

On this week’s show, I was delighted to be able to catch up with Trick Mist. Gavin Murray has been a guest on The London Ear previously but recently returned to Ireland after living abroad for a number of years.

We had a really good chat about life back in Ireland, Gavin’s recent travels and the influence it had on his music and his current single, ‘Fraction’.

Reintroducing The London Ear

REINTRODUCING THE LONDON EAR

REINTRODUCING THE LONDON EAR

What is The London Ear?

For the past five and a half years, I’ve been presenting a radio show on RTÉ2XM. When I moved to London, almost three and a half years ago, I changed the arts and culture show, Culture Café, into The London Ear.

If we’re friends on Facebook or Twitter, or you visit my site, you’ll see weekly updates about The London Ear. But what is it?

Since moving to London, The London Ear has changed from a predominantly music show to a show to include more of the Irish community in London. It’s not just about what I see in London, it’s about Irish people and how they are contributing to life in London.

The show still does have an arts slant, chatting and theatre, art, music and we’ve featured playwrights, actors, musicians and London based Irish groups who work with the Irish community in London.

The London Ear is a hobby, I don’t get paid, it’s something I do after work and very much enjoy. But I am a team of one.

Get Involved, Would you like to be featured?

If you’re Irish in London or in the UK and you’re involved in something you think I’d be interested in, please get in touch. I have no doubt that I’ve missed events, projects and happenings that should have covered.

Let me know, send me an email nessy @ nessymon.com

Irish Diaspora around the World

Lots of us joined what was called Generation Emigration and left Ireland, some by choice, some by necessity. But we all seem to have one thing in common. Whether we plan on staying in our adopted homes or are returning to Ireland, we contribute to life abroad. Each of us represent our little island where ever we go.

Just because you’re not in London or not in the UK, that doesn’t rule you out. We’d love to hear from you. We’ve had people from the New York, Norway, Nashville, Barcelona and more on the show. Get in touch and let me know about your project, your art, your life outside Ireland.

How can I listen to The London Ear

The radio show is broadcast every Saturday at 1300 GMT on DAB in Ireland on RTÉ 2XM. You can listen live online or listen on demand through the RTÉ player. You can also check out each episode on Mixcloud.

You can follow each episode here on my little website or on the RTÉ 2XM website.

So there is it, The London Ear, we’ve had musicians, actors, writers, theatre directors and many more on the show, what would you like me to feature next? Get in touch, it’s your show, a radio show for the Irish diaspora and a voice for the Irish community in London.

Tell me what you want to hear.

Happy Easter!

It’s great having a four-day weekend! I’m fully of the opinion that if we had longer weekends or a four-day week, that it would cut down on unemployment and everyone would have a little bit more time to do what they really wanted to. Using every Saturday as a rest day for the previous week leaves you with one day to have fun. Who’s with me?

Interview with writer/playwright Sue Healy

Irish Playwright - Sue Healy - The London Ear

Today on The London Ear, I chat to Irish playwright, Sue Healy. Sue’s play ‘Cow’ is on tonight (April 15) in the Etcetera Theatre, over the Oxford Arms pub in Camden at 945pm.

Cow is ‘An entertaining light comedy that also mulls contemporary issues including immigration, perceptions of women and infertility’. It’s also got a bit of a DJ Carey obsession going on.

Sue has a fantastic CV of achievements, you can read all about her work on her website and you can follow Sue on Twitter.

Keep an eye out for more ‘Cow’ dates this summer!

Interview with Moses from Bokito

Bokito - The London Ear

Get two lads from Kildare, three from lads from the UK, a touch of hip hop and afrobeat vibes, put it altogether and you end up with Bokito.

I played their track ‘Better at getting Worse’ on the show and you know what? I absolutely love it. It’s a fantastic debut release so I had to get chatting to the guys behind the sound and find out what is going on.

You can find out more about the band on Facebook, Twitter and on Instagram.

They play The Tram in Tooting on April 22nd and Whelan’s in Dublin on April 28th.

Video Blue on The London Ear

Show 149 of The London Ear, I was delighted to have been contacted by Jody from Bokito with their new track, ‘Better at Getting Worse’. There are two Irish guys in the London based band and their track was perfect to kick off the show.

Interview with Video Blue

It’s great to know that a guest from Show 1 of The London Ear is still making music. Then, Jim O’Donoghue Martin was a member of Bold Things. Now, he’s combines jangly guitars and electronica. He’s just released his debut album ‘Love Scenes’, which was recorded in his bedroom in Hackney. It really is worth your time.

You can find Video Blue on his website, on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and you can buy the album on Bandcamp
