Tune of the Week // Graham Mitchell – Maria Browne

I first heard about this guy from my friend, Sarah. It was about four or five years ago and there was this young fella called Milky near where she lived and she thought I should check out his music. He was good but needed a little time to perfect everything.

Fast forward to 2017 and Milky has dropped this moniker in favour of his own name and has released a couple of cracking tracks. A few of months ago, Graham Mitchell released ‘Inside I’m Dancing’ and ‘You’ve Disappeared’, a piano/guitar led ballad that highlighted his vocal and musical abilities. But the release of this track ‘Maria Browne’ proves just how far the young Dubliner has come.

‘Maria Browne’ is an old school story about a love lost with a upbeat sixties soul vibe. Clocking in at just under two and a half minutes, the full band sound and production from Jon Dotts, are in perfect for the era. This is a huge jump for Graham Mitchell, showing a glimpse of what is to come.

Pop Danthology 2015: Full Artist and Song Lists

PopDantholgy2015Posting end of year mash ups has become a sort of tradition here at nessymon.com. This year, Daniel Kim is first out of the blocks, with not one but two separate mixes.

Listening, it’s easy to see what Mr Kim took the decision to turn this year into two separate mixes, making the final mixes easier to sing along to. This also allows the tracks used to have more room in mixes and each to become their own separate ‘song’ entity.

Between the two mixes there are 37 tracks used in one and 45 in the other and each mix has its own individual vibe.

What I’m also finding really interesting is that Mr Kim has made two versions of each mix. A YouTube edit for parts 1 and 2 and his own full edits (shown below) on Facebook and Soundcloud, as YouTube blocks some of the content in certain countries.

A Facebook video takes care of that, which leads me to wonder if/when Facebook video will come to surpass YouTube. Both are shareable and unless you’re getting shedloads of hits on YouTube, the only major difference I can see, is revenue from adverts.

Tune of the Week // Clock Opera – Changeling

Last I heard of Clock Opera was at a gig in Academy 2 in Dublin a couple of years ago. They were touring their album ‘Ways To Forget’. I had seen the band live a few times, including at Camden Crawl Dublin and had interviewed them also. I really liked their sound and they were a really nice bunch of lads. The other thing I remember was at that Academy 2 gig, someone took their beloved jug, used on stage as a percussive instrument. I wonder if they ever got it back.

Being bad, I had originally signed up to their mailing list using an address I now don’t use that much, so I completely missed that the band were back doing their thing after a slight line up change and were hoping to record an album with the help of crowdfunding.

Now that they’ve reached their goal, this week the band posted ‘Changeling’ on their Soundcloud page.

Changeling still has many elements that we can still associate with previous Clock Opera work. Bells literally do ring in change in this track, clever association with lyrics and production use church bells as part of the rhythm section. Guy Connolly’s vocals are tender, almost whispered in points. All elements combine for a perfect first born from the new album.

You can get ‘Changeling’ as a free download by signing up here on ClockOpera.com

The band are on tour in December and are doing a now SOLD OUT show in The Old Blue Last in London. Guess who is really happy they got tickets? Yup me!

Free Download // Sinéad White – Better (Blend Bold Remix)

SIneadWhiteThere are some things you miss out on when you’re not living in your native land. One of the things I’ve been missing is going to gigs and checking out brand new Irish music.

I don’t know an awful lot about Sinéad White, she’s from Leixlip, and most of what I do know comes from her being chosen as one of Goldenplec’s Picks for 2015. What I do know is that the Bold Blend Remix of Better is an absolute stomper and you should go and download it right now!

The remix comes courtesy of Dublin based DJ/Producer, Blend Bold, who has a new album coming out in October and has just, at time of writing, 98 likes on Facebook, C’Mon People !! I’ve been listening to some tracks on his Soundcloud page and he definitely desrves more likes than that.

The remix is spot on, melodic, compliments the original song and catchy as hell. Go download it now!. You can hear me play it on the next episode of The London Ear.
